Having a home is like having kids; there’s always looking after. And one place that needs constant attention is your landscape.
Maintaining your landscape includes caring for various interests, both organic and manufactured. Unfortunately, the skills needed for each don’t necessarily have a lot of overlap. Luckily, with Custom Acres, you have a swiss army knife of a tool that can handle all of your landscape maintenance needs.
Trees and Shrubs
Trees and shrubs are high notes of your landscape. They’re likely the only landscape elements with any height at all. As a result, they are some of the first things people see when looking at your property, and like everything else, they need adequate care and attention to thrive.
Check-Ups
It’s essential to check on the health of trees and shrubs. They will serve you well as long as you take care of them. But disease, pests, and age can all have harmful effects on your plants’ growth.
Luckily Custom Acres knows what to look for. If your trees or shrubs are having problems, we will know how to fix them or eliminate the plants or parts of plants that have an issue before it spreads.
Pruning
Once we identify unhealthy parts of your plants, it’s time for pruning. Pruning just means eliminating the unhealthy branches and other plant parts so that they don’t cause issues to your property and other plants.
Pruning helps your plants’ health and prevents dead branches from falling unexpectedly, causing property damage, or hurting someone.
Trimming
Trimming bushes, trees, and shrubs help to keep them tidy and well-shaped. It also improves the health of your plants by making them stronger and more resilient.
Flowerbeds
Flowerbeds add color and texture to your landscape. For many, flowerbeds are what gardening is.

Flowerbed Design
The design step in any proces is one of the most fun parts of landscaping. Flowerbed texture and color are two of the factors that go into creation.
If you can dream it, you can build it (or we can).
You probably would like different heights, shapes, and sizes for your
flowers
in addition to color variation. Another factor to consider is peference:
do you like perennials, annuals, or a mix of both?
Perennials are rewarding because they come back year after year. On the other hand, annuals can give you a lot of variety as you have to change them seasonally.
A combination of perennials you can look forward to and annuals to make them spice up your gardens can be the ideal combination for your garden.
Installation & Maintenance
Some installation is required even if you have primarily perennials that return each year. This is because not every plant survives until the following year, and often the plants you look forward to seeing compete with some unwanted visitors.
Part of maintaining your garden beds is removing dead plants and weeds. One way to help prevent weeds from taking over is mulch. We’ve got a lot to say about mulch but not enough time to get into it today!
Lawns – Oh, So Much to Do for the Lawn!
In Florida, with our famously warm and humid weather, we don’t have much of a dormant season for our plants. This kind of weather equals both good news and bad news for your lawn. It can always be green, but you will have something to do all year.
Mowing
We can’t talk about lawns without talking about mowing. Your property is likely cut weekly or every other week (hopefully by us). But there’s more to mowing than just pushing or riding a mower.
Each grass has a different optimal length; you need to know that correct length before mowing it. Cutting too short will damage some grasses.
Fertilizing
To keep your grass and green healthy, you must keep it fed. Once again, knowing the breed of grass is critical. Different grasses thrive in different soil and have different acidity levels.
Grass grows best when it is fertilized just before the peak growing season. Custom Acres will know which grass you have in your lawn, what kind of fertilizer it will need to thrive, and when to apply it.
Water & Irrigation
What’s more important than food? Water, of course! That’s true for just about every member of the plant and animal kingdoms.
Part of maintaining your landscaping is ensuring your plants have the proper hydration. The easiest way to keep your plants hydrated is passively. We install an irrigation system that waters your plants for you, ideally at their roots, where they need the water most.
Aerating and Overseeding
And finally, an essential part of every lawn maintenance regimen – aeration and overseeding.
Aerating your soil is vital for preventing it from becoming too hard and compact. Once we’ve poked the holes in the soil and brought up the cores of dirt, we can add seeds to the ground.
Overseeding after aeration is perfect because the looser soil allows the seeds to access all that fresh air, nourishing water, and yummy nutrients they need to thrive.
Hardscape – Man-made Landscapes Need Maintenance Too
With all the planting, pruning, trimming, and mowing (and let’s not forget about gathering and fun!) going on in your yard, your patio and other hardscape surfaces will need maintenance too. But, not to worry, we have the power washing solutions to take care of your property well and professionally!
Bringing It All Together (and Keeping It Separated)
We’ve talked about your yard in parts, but whether designing, installing, or maintaining it, it’s crucial to view it holistically. Every aspect affects every other from both an ecosystem and aesthetic perspective.
When we maintain your yard, we understand how we treat your grass will affect your trees and vice versa. The same is true for every combination of our services.
We want them to look good together. We also want to make sure one plant’s thriving doesn’t threaten another’s survival.
Whether that means keeping nice edges so you can tell your lawn from your flowerbeds or ensuring that your tree is correctly trimmed so it doesn’t cast too much shade for your hedges Custom Acres will always keep the big picture in mind.
